What we do

Talk Speech and Language Therapy provide independent assessment and therapy for children and young adults with speech, language and communication needs.

Established in 2012, we are a friendly & experienced team of 30 Speech Therapists, Specialist Practitioners & Assistants, providing services for Bristol and the surrounding area including Bath, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset & Wiltshire.

We support individual children and families at our welcoming Bristol based clinic or online. For more complex and specialist needs, we offer assessment & therapy across a range of environments including education settings and within our clinics.

Our team has extensive expertise in providing tailored assessment, ongoing therapy and specialist training for over 70 Schools, Educational Settings, Charities & Local Authorities.

We offer a clinic service for children, young people and their families at our friendly and welcome Bristol location as well as an online service. Our holistic approach includes assessment, therapy, support and parental advice.

For more complex and specialist needs, we offer a flexible outreach service to meet the needs of the client. We also provide a specialist feeding (dysphagia & sensory feeding) clinic for both children and adults.

Schools & Early Years

Talk Speech & Language Therapy offer an independent service to Schools and Early Years settings.

We have successful partnerships with over 70 education settings across Bristol, Bath, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and Wiltshire. We are a trusted provider for the Bristol Local Authority. We work with pre-school, mainstream primary & secondary, special school settings & post-16 as well as adults within supported living environments.

Talk Speech and Language Therapy provide a wide range of accredited and bespoke training courses for educational settings and parents or carers. These can be delivered from our training facility or at your preferred location.

Children with speech and language challenges have a much higher risk of mental health problems. Support for mental health is usually in the form of “talking therapies” which are very difficult for children who have speech and language challenges to access. Why are communication skills important for mental health? We use our communication skills to: Talk about how we are feeling Understand how others are feeling Resolve conflicts and negotiate with others. HOW can we support communication skills Use visual supports to help children reflect on behavioural incidents after they’ve occurred and talk about how they and others were feeling. Visuals such as emotion picture cards and comic strip conversations or drawing can be helpful.

We're loving our 'Story Box' sessions in our Early Years setting... Speech Therapy Assistant Fiona made some little puppets for our amazing kids to enjoy during the session. They're building their skills including joint attention, turn-taking and vocabulary development . They're also really enjoying a regular, fun story time on the huge cushions in a small group. We are celebrating Deaf Awareness Week (6 to 12 May 2024) with the aim of making everyday life more deaf-friendly for children and young people. Childline's latest posters for schools and settings with children and young people are available for different age groups and are FREE to download from their website. CHILDLINE help anyone under 19 in the UK with any issue they’re going through. Trained counsellors can talk about anything. Whether it’s something big or small, Childline is there to help and support. Childline is free, confidential, and available any time, day or night. School & exam worries, bullying & friendship issues, home & families, body, relationships & sex, mental health, personal safety - they'll listen and support with it all. Bryony attended the NAPLIC conference 2024 on Saturday. It was an inspiring day, hearing about Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) from lots of different angles - a family perspective, from researchers, from those working in the youth justice system... Let's continue to raise awareness of DLD, so DLD can be better understood and people can access appropriate support. #naplic24 #DevLangDis.

In this video, adults with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) talk about what life is like for them. It's so important for us to support the young people we work with to build understanding of themselves (what they excel at, as well as what they find difficult), self-belief, resilience, and self-advocacy.

Today is Earth Day! Earthday.org are an organisation that work to drive positive action for our planet. At Talk SLT, we have been thinking about how we can ensure the children in the classrooms we work in have all the visual support they need, whilst also reducing how much paper and printing we are doing. These are some photos of our new ‘Beginners AAC group’ in one of our school settings. We set up 3x activities - *Mr Potato Head (choosing a variety of items to make your own) *Farm sensory play (child-led) *Paint table Children were supported throughout the session to use their AAC to have a fun time with other users and adults and explore the creative resources on offer. We can't wait to do it again!

Horses, F1 Drivers, Dogs, Popstars & Rappers, Dinosaurs... we've done them all. Always good to check in at the start of a session so we can approach it accordingly 😆😞🤔😴😡
